While visions of sugarplums danced in their heads...

The 2010 President’s Dinner

One December night in Milledgeville the magic of holiday spirit filled the cathedral height ceilings of the atrium at Georgia Military College’s main campus. Sparkling tables with arrangements of greenery and ornaments reminiscent of sugarplums set the stage for an evening of dining and dance. The occasion: the seventh annual President’s Gala Reception and Dinner in honor of those have been so generous to GMC in its continued efforts to develop the intellect and character of each of its students.

“Susan and I can truly say the President’s Dinner is one or our favorite events during the holiday season. It is wonderful to celebrate the school’s success each year with fellow supporters of this great institution,” said Stephen K. Simpson (HS ’68).

Hosted by MG Peter Boylan and his wife, Kathy, the evening began with mingling amidst the music of a string quartet. Dinner followed, including a course of mixed greens salad with spiced pecans, feta and dried cranberries; beef tenderloin and crab and shrimp casserole in puff pastry; and roasted green beans. Accompanying the meal were conversations and stories to share between friends and acquaintances.

The decadent dessert buffet was topped by a visit from Frank Sinatra in the form of Adam Komesar. With his own twist of talent and pizazz, Mr. Komesar sang like the Chairman of the Board – Old Blue Eyes himself. His energy was contagious and soon guests were out of their seats, dancing to the jazz and big band tunes of yore.

“Both Anne and I thoroughly enjoyed the evening,” noted Russell Walden (HS ’59). “The decorations were gorgeous, the dinner wonderful, and the entertainer amazing. Having the entertainer strolling and singing was a special treat.”

Mrs. Marjorie Wood commented, “Being included at the dinner hosted by MG and Mrs. Boylan was a special treat for my son Rick, HS ’70, and me. We enjoyed the wonderful meal in such a festive setting, and it was a pleasure for Rick to see some of his former classmates and teachers. My late husband Dawson was proud that our son had attended GMC, and my gift toward scholarships in his memory will provide others that same opportunity.”

Through the key efforts and generosity of those in attendance, $564,913.00 in gifts to the GMC Foundation was attained, including $76,738.00 in unrestricted gifts; $280,473.00 in commitments toward special initiatives; and $207,702.00 toward endowment. President’s Circle and Oak Leaf Society members alone were responsible for this substantial portion of the total $1.2 million given in support of Georgia Military College during fiscal year 2010.

“The President's Dinner was one of the highlights of our year. The decorations were beautiful, the entertainment was outstanding, and the opportunity to renew old friendships is always special. We will return as often as possible.” - Fran and Jim Patterson (HS ’53, JC ’55)
