GMC Appreciation Day

September 29, 2007

Mr. W. J. "Bill" Usery, Jr. hosted a "Tribute to Georgia Military College," celebrating GMC’s past, present, and future on Saturday, September 29. This event was formally celebrated with a black-tie, gala dinner in the Old Legislative Hall. In addition to the dinner, a special tribute was paid to General Peter Boylan for his leadership and visionary accomplishments as President of Georgia Military College.

Mr. Usery stated, "As a 1941 graduate, I am profoundly grateful for the many ways in which my life has been shaped by my experiences at Georgia Military College. It is my hope that this Tribute has expressed my gratitude and appreciation in ways that will be of significant benefit, not only to GMC, but to the citizens of Milledgeville."

One of GMC’s most esteemed graduates, Mr. Usery is former U. S. Secretary of Labor and has served under five presidential administrations. He has received numerous accolades and awards in the course of his career, including five honorary doctorates; however, he considers it his among his highest honors to have received from Georgia Military College not only the Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1971 but also GMC’s greatest tribute, the Carl Vinson Public Service Award, in 1990.
